Today was a travel day and was spent primarily on a bus going from Krakow, Poland through the Carpathians into the Czech Republic and then to Bratislava, Slovakia.  We arrived at our hotel at 16:00 after 7 hours of travelling.  Our hotel, Austrian Trend, is new and is located on a pedestrian mall area just outside the old city.  After checking in, we walked down to the old city and entered through St. Michael’s Gate.

There were a lot of people in the old city and it was much livelier than when we were here several years ago.  From what we have read, Bratislava is now a very thriving city of around 400,000 people.
Dinner was at Bratislavsky Mestiansky Pivovar, which was about a block from the hotel.  They had prepared a special buffet of traditional Slovak food for us and it was excellent.   Tomorrow morning we will gather for a tour of the old town and the Primatial Palace.
